Waylon was born and raised on Kauai and graduated Western Oregon University with a BS in Exercise Sports Science. He worked at Oregon State University as an Adapted Physical Activity Coach, focusing on a motor skills fitness program for children with special needs. He also worked as a Corrective Exercise Technician at IndigoWellness Center, applying his personal training techniques for yoga practitioners and Scholarship athletes. After returning home to Kauai, he worked as a Physical Therapy Technician for 3 years at an outpatient clinic while simultaneously coaching youth sports and working 1 on 1 with clients around nutritional education and fitness performance. On his off time, Waylon spends time with family. If he’s not chasing around his nieces and nephews, he’s hiking a trail in Kokee, riding dirt bikes in Anahola or having a nice R&R day on the Southside.
Leah grew up in Charleston, South Carolina before relocating to Kauai with her family in 2019. She is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer with a background in ICU nursing. Leah combines her medical expertise with a passion for strength training and all around wellness. Her mission is to inspire others to achieve their fitness goals with a blend of science, sweat, and fun.
When she’s not spending time with her new baby and family, Leah loves focusing on her own health and wellness, traveling, and enjoying an adventurous life on Kauai. She believes fitness should be fun, empowering, and accessible to everyone. Join Leah on a journey to build strength, break a sweat, and have a blast along the way!
Heather grew up on the island of Kauai, immersed in a healthy and active lifestyle, enjoying hiking, surfing, and competitive swimming and running. Later, she moved off the island to earn her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Sports Psychology from Western Washington University. Heather also competed as a High Jumper on Western’s DII track and field team throughout her college career. Her lifestyle, studies, and athletics inspired her interest in personal training, so she became fully certified through the American Council of Exercise.
Heather is passionate about sparking joy in others’ lives through movement. Her approach to fitness is rooted in functional movement patterns that nourish both the mind and body and cultivate feelings of inner and outer strength and confidence. She will provide you with training programs tailored to your unique goals that honor the development of biomechanical efficiency so that you can achieve long-term health, functioning, and strength through the movements you enjoy.
Recently certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Jill is new to the Kilauea Phys Ed personal training team. In the continual pursuit of a healthy and active lifestyle, Jill can be found training in all fitness areas, especially loving strength and resistance training, running, and yoga. You can always find her adventuring outside; hiking, surfing, or exploring her new home here on Kauai. She is excited to work alongside you to achieve whatever goals you may have and is passionate about making fitness a fun and exciting part of your new healthy lifestyle.
Previously an AFAA-certified personal trainer in the 90s, Joy updated her personal training certification through the prestigious National Academy of Sports Medicine. No doubt that she is an experienced athlete. She was an All-American 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diver at Springfield College in Massachusetts. She coached men and women collegiate diving champions throughout her coaching career after college. Next, Joy entered the health fitness field as an AFAA-certified aerobic instructor. She set up new gym members’ workout routines and monitored their progress closely. Joy dedicated 8 years to the field of fitness instructing water aerobics, step aerobics, slide board training, and free weight coaching. Joy was also the weekly fitness expert featured on her local televised news program, sharing various workout tips and training the sports anchor on live tv. She continued her love for competition by preparing for and competing in 5 natural women’s bodybuilding contests.
Joy redirected her career path back to public school teaching. She is a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education through Springfield College. She is currently licensed as a State of Hawaii educator in the fields of Early Childhood Education, Special Education, General Education, and Physical Education. Joy has been a Hawaii public school teacher since 2004 at Kekaha, Koloa, and Kapa’a Elementary Schools teaching grades kindergarten to 6th.
Joy comes from an athletic family, her mother was a special education physical educator and certified professional skiing instructor. Her father is a retired professor of physical education and men’s gymnasts coach from Springfield College. He is a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame, inducted in ‘76 for his outstanding contributions to coaching.
Jacob began his journey with fitness at age 16 during the rehabilitation of a serious back injury playing football. Over the last 14 years, he has spent much of his time involved in training with a wide variety of populations and modalities including commercial gyms, strength and condition facilities, and youth weight-loss camps. Jacob believes in taking a well-rounded and deliberate approach to training whether it be getting stronger, losing weight, or rehabbing an injury. Jacob is passionate about helping his clients build a strong foundation focusing on correcting imbalances and discrepancies while reestablishing a thorough understanding of quality, pain-free movement.
